Challenge 3: Creating Avatars

To do this challenge, you need to follow these directions:

• Watch the tutorial video
• Click on Pocoyo website
• Create your avatar: choose genre, clothes, hair, skin color....
• When you finish it , download the image and save it in your computer desk.
• Open your mail and send your Avatar to the teacher (pelesa78@gmail.com) . It is important for your mail you: say Hello teacher, write your name and class, you describe yourself and give some personal information.

Let´s play!!

Students play this board game about school rooms. All students say the name of the rooms and add some extra information about them. So, we can offer the students the opportunity to use the language depending on their levels and their necessities.

Students pick up a word from a bag and they  give a definition of it.

Art and crafts

Now , it is the moment to practice all the vocabulary we have learnt in previous lessons, so our students create this beautiful art work about seasons of the year. They represent in the drawings all the seasons: their changes, their characteristics, their colors...

Students play these two board games for them to practice the vocabulary about seasons, cothes, weather, months, actions....

Teacher divide the class into two . We have 6 different groups, so they are divided into three and three groups.

• Then, teacher gives the board games, counters and dice and explains how to play.
• Only English can be used in class during the game. It is very important, because the student who doesn´t do it will go to start again.
• Three groups play one board game for 20 minutes and then, they change to play the other board game. So all students play both games.

Autumn is a very nice season: leaves fall, new fruit grows, the weather changes, Halloween is celebrated... School can offer lots of experiences and opportunities for children to learn and focus on different topics related to Fall.

5th level students talk about school rules: their importance, and which ones are necessary for class. They talk about the difference in both images , what is happening there? which attitudes are not correct? ...

Then, they read the following rules and they say if they like them or not.

Challenge 1: English is around us

English language  and its influence are around us. We can look around and find lots of English words and traditions.
For this first challenge you need to:

• Open your eyes and look around you.
• Find words in English. You can see them in your clothes, traffic signs, computers, tv....
• When you find them, take a photo and send it to the teacher by whatsapp. (In the text ,you should say "Hello teacher" and write your name and class. Add the photo) 
• That´s all!!! You will get an extra point in Class Dojo app.

First week of school is a great opportunity for our students to introduce themselves and talk about their friends and classmates. We can provide lots of icebreakers activities to our students they will love and enjoy.

This is me

During this lesson, students introduce themselves. They have to speak for 30 seconds without stopping in 5th level and for 50 seconds in 6th level.
The teacher writes some tips and clues on the blackboard for them to organize their own information.
Then , they complete this nice banner to reinforce some ideas and decorate the classroom and school corridor.

 

Speaking class

Spider web: This activity focusses on speaking skill and giving personal information. It is called "Spider web" Children throw a piece of wool to a classmate and give personal information about him or her. At least they have to say 3 different sentences.

Don´t stop : 5th level students speak in pairs giving personal information about themselves. They can't´ stop talking during 30 seconds at the beginning. They can use use the linguistic structures they want, but they can´t stop speaking. When they finish , they will have a new challenge: talk for 50 seconds, and so on. Teacher add seconds to force them not to stop using language. The importance is communication not mistakes. 

Believe in # your selfie!!

For the first days of classroom, students draw their faces on this phone model  and introduce themselves in front of their classmates . Then, we decorate the front door with their drawings.

It is the important for them to know they are very special and necessary for our class.

 

 

Classroom management

Class Dojo is a really important tool in our English Class.  On first day with students, teacher shows them the different classroom corners, how to organize their worksheets, classroom rules and their Dojo monsters.
Using Class Dojo , teachers can control student´s behaviors, work, cooperation, participation in class,...
Students love it!! It is really motivating for them all!!
